Lake Level: 1066.18 (4.82 below full pool)
Water Temperature: mid 80’s in the morning and high 80’s in the afternoon
Water Clarity: Clear
Weather Pattern (past few days): Looks like normal summer in Georgia with high 80’s/low 90’s and chances of afternoon showers the rest of the week.
The rain we are getting this week knocked the surface temperatures down a couple of degrees but it hasn’t changed the overall fishing pattern.
- Fish are still deep.
- They’re still following suspended bait.
- Trolling is still the best way to find them.
- Once you find them, switch to live bait.
Then transition to the spoon when you get that school really fired up under the boat. The StriperTackle Boss Hawg Spoon has been lots of fun recently.
One thing I am seeing more of this week is the artificial bite. If you’re trolling around looking for fish anyway, don’t overlook a spoon on your leadcore setup. It’s a great way to stay in the game while you’re searching and can often put a few fish in the boat before you ever stop.
I’ve had really good luck with the StriperTackle Fat Hawg Spoon this summer fished 6-8 colors back at 2.5mph.
Captain Ron’s Tip This Week
Why I’m Throwing More Spoons
Both the Hawg and Fat Spoons have been producing the last few weeks and will continue to through August. The power reeling bite is lots of fun and allows you to get a bait down to these really deep fish and not have to worry about changing gout a dead herring every 30 seconds. It’s also a blast feeling the striper try to rip the rod out of your hand. It’s very easy fishing as well. Mark the fish on the graph, drop the Hawg Spoon to the bottom and start reeling it rapidly up through the fish. It’s that easy.
