Water level is 1065.38 (5.62 feet down) with water temps ranging from 62 to 64 degrees. Turnover is really getting going on the lake so water clarity is clear where it has not started to weak coffee colored where it is still going on. As turnover rolls along, the “breakout” has begun and fish will be caught all over the lake in November using lots of different techniques. Top water plugs, Striper Tackle Spoons (vertical and casting), and Mini Mack’s will all be effective artificials this month. First thing in the morning, on cloudy days throughout the day, and the last couple of hours of the day the top water bite will be great for stripers. Schools of bigger fish will be coming up in the main creek channels and the river channel from Brown’s Bridge to the dam and we will also see schools of smaller fish up and down the river channels up to the Hwy 60 Bridge on the Hootch side and the War Hill area on the Tee side. These schools will not stay up long so be prepared to “run and gun” the lake looking for them to pop up. When you get close, make a long cast with plugs like Spooks, Gunfish, or Magic Swimmers. Chrome, Bone, and Ghost are all go to colors for these plugs. Another great lure that will still be a great option this month is the Striper Tackle Jr Hawg spoon that we talked about last month. The Capt Mack’s U-rig bite will also improve this month. Pull these over 25-35’ points and humps with brush on them at 2.5-3 mph, 100-135’ behind the boat. The u-rig bite typically gets better as the sun gets up later in the morning and will be good till late afternoon on our sunny fall days. Most of these fish will be really close to the brush piles so if you’re not getting hung up then you are in the wrong place. Get yourself a rig retriever and just back up over the hang up and pull the rig out. The shallow bait bite will get better as the water temps get into the lower to mid 60s. Pull planer boards and free lines, with herring or shad, 30-75’ behind the boat/board over 15-30’ points or humps or in the areas you are seeing the surfacing schools. The birds will be showing up in force when the full moon rolls around on November 5th, so don’t feel overwhelmed with the amount of water the fish are covering because our feathered friends will help you locate fish and areas to put out your spread or where to concentrate your eyes on looking for those awesome top water schools.
Strength and contentment (strength that cannot be stolen) in our lives cannot be found or relied on in ourselves. It can only be found in Savior reliance. There are 3 steps to a peace filled life that Paul gives us in Philippians 4:4-7. #1 Rejoice in the Lord in all things in our lives no matter how hard it is. #2 Pray about everything in our lives. #3 Remember that Christ is always watching over us. In all things in our lives we also need to realize that if we remember that Christ is always with us then we can be content in everything as Paul shows us in Philippians 4-11-13. We will always have storms in our lives and if we have Christ as our Savior he will be right there with us, going thru that storm with us.
Get out there and catch em up!
