Common Questions for Lake Lanier Striper Fishing Charter

When is the Best Time to Fish for Stripers on Lake Lanier?

Lake Lanier offers excellent striper fishing year-round, but each season presents unique opportunities. Spring (March-May) features aggressive pre-spawn feeding with fish in 15-30ft using planer boards and flatlines. Summer (June-August) brings deep water fishing at 40-120 feet using downlines. Fall (September-November) offers consistent action as stripers chase baitfish in the shallows. Winder (December-February) provides trophy opportunities with larger fish holding in deeper channels. Our full-time guide service means we adjust techniques to seasonal patterns daily.

How Far in Advance Should I Book?

We recommend booking 2-4 weeks in advance, especially for weekend trips during peak seasons (March-October). Weekday availability is typically better with 1-2 weeks notice. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) are really not fun fishing weekends, so we typically don’t fish those Saturday-Monday dates. Last minute openings do occur due to cancellations so be sure to call us at 678-300-4865 to check availability.

Can I Choose a Morning or Afternoon Trip?

Absolutely! Half Day trips run either morning (typically 7-11) or afternoon (typically 2-6). Full day trips usually start at 7am and run until 1pm. Morning trips are most consistent year round, while afternoon trips work well in the summer. We’ll recommend the best timing based on current fishing patterns when you book.

What Should I Bring on My Trip?

All bait, tackle, and ice furnished at no additional cost so no need to bring those.  Please do bring:

  • Fishing License (www.gofishgeorgia.com)
  • Food & Drink (ice is provided)
  • Camera
  • Cooler for fish
  • Sunscreen
  • Rain Gear

How Long Should I Book a Trip For?

We offer four or six hour trips.  We only offer four hour trips on the weekend when the boat traffic gets much heavier as the morning goes on.  We want to put you on the fish before the crowds head out.

If you are bringing kids, we typically recommend a four hour trip.

Are Kids Welcome?

We love kids on the boat, but we do recommend a 4 hour trip if kids are joining.  We also recommend that you dress kids appropriately for the weather – running across the lake makes the temperature much colder.  Kids under 13 require a life jacket.

How Many People Can Fit in the Boat?

We fit four people comfortably on the boat.  We can fit up to 6 but we say if you don’t know those people well before your trip, you will know them well after your trip.   We also offer multi-boat trips if needed.

Do You Guarantee Fish?

We don’t guarantee fish, but we do guarantee we will work hard to deliver you the best Striper Experience.  We rarely have a day in which we don’t catch fish.

How does weather effect our trip?

Safety is our top priority as a USCG-licensed operation. We keep a close eye on the weather but we don’t rely on the weather forecast more than 12 hours out.  If the weather is a concern the day of your trip, we will communicate regarding options and timing.  If we decide to cancel and you are unable to reschedule, we will refund your deposit if you booked online. Light rain doesn’t stop us – fish often bite better in overcast conditions. We provide guidance on bringing rain gear.

Where Do We Meet Our Guide?

We’ll meet at a boat ramp, and we can do either the east or west side of the lake depending on where the fish are biting.  If you live on the lake or are staying on the lake, we can pick you up at your dock provided your dock isn’t too far away from where the fish are biting.  We would rather spend your time fishing.

Do We Need a Fishing License?

Yes, everyone 16 and older needs a Georgia fishing license.  Licenses are very cost effective, even for out of state anglers. You can get your license online at www.gofishgeorgia.com.

Is There a Bathroom Available?

We do have a porta potti on the boat that we can make available. Aside from that, most of the parks and marinas on the lake have a bathroom if we need to make a stop.

Where Can We Stay, Eat and Play?

Check out our Lake Lanier Resources page to see our recommendations on places to stay, activities on and around the Lake Lanier area and restaurants on the water.

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

When you book, we will take a credit card number as a reservation holder.  We don’t charge anything to the card unless you cancel within 72 hours.   If you do cancel within 72 hours of your trip, we charge a half price cancellation fee. You can use a credit card the day of the trip and we charge a 3% transaction fee. Otherwise, cash or check works just fine.

In the case of inclement weather, we will reschedule if your schedule allows.  Call us to discuss inclement weather options.

What makes you different from other guides?

What makes us different? First and foremost, Captain Ron is a fully licensed USCG captain — a credential that requires federal safety training and vessel compliance standards that not every guide service on Lake Lanier carries. We’ve also been guiding full-time on Lake Lanier since 2008. This isn’t something we do on the side — we’re on the water year-round staying dialed in on seasonal patterns, bait movement, and what the fish are doing day to day.

Between our team, we bring more than 80 years of combined striper fishing experience on Lake Lanier. We run professional-grade electronics, tackle, and equipment because details matter when it comes to consistently finding and catching fish. We also publish regular fishing reports because we genuinely love teaching people and helping anglers learn the lake.

Most importantly, we care about giving people a great experience — whether you’re a seasoned angler or stepping onto a striper boat for the first time. We want every trip to be fun, relaxed, educational, and memorable. That commitment has helped us earn more than 40 five-star reviews and a long list of repeat clients who fish with us year after year.
